Foster Farms to Eliminate Human-Use Antibiotics

California chicken giant Foster Farms became the fourth major chicken producer in the past twelve months to announce that it will curb the use of antibiotics crucial to human medicine. The announcement came the day before the Food and Drug Administration issued a final rule that will eventually make it illegal for livestock and poultry producers to use antibiotics without a prescription from a veterinarian. Antibiotic resistant bacteria cause 2 million illnesses and 23,000 deaths each year in the United States alone.
